WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE – POET, PLAYWRIGHT AND ACTOR

Hello everyone :)

How are you feeling guys? How are your marks in school? Anyway, I hope you are all alright and doing well.

In this today post on our school blog, I want to show you all one of the best playwright, that has ever been alive. You might know him, his books, his plays, his body of work. His full name is William Shakespeare! :-)

But, first of all, William Shakespeare was a great poet, playwright and also an actor. To this day, we still don't know what is the date of his birthday. Scholars believe that, in kemping with the traditions of the time, Shakespeare would have been baptised when he was only three days old, meaning that he

was probably born on 23rd April in 1564, but the exact date of his birthday is still unknown to this day. We know that he was baptised on 26th April in 1564 at Holy Trinity Church. He was one of eight childrens born to John Shakespeare, glove marker. Shakespeare’s mother, Mary Arden was an heiress from a wealthy family. His hometown was Stratford-upon-Avon in England. William had seven siblings.

Very little is known about poet's early years. It's believed he had an good upbringing, attented a good school and enjoyed playing outdoors a lot. ;-)

When William Shakespeare was 18 years old he married a farmer's daughter, Anne Hathaway. She was 26 years old and three months pregnant on the wedding day. William and Anne had three childrens together – first child, daughter Susanna and twins Judith and Hamnet.

About late 1580s Shakespeare disappeared from records for a few years! Scholars often called this time as „the lost years", because we have no idea what he was doing.

Unexpectly, William Shakespeare left his hometown (Stratford-upon-Avon) and moved to London. In the capital city of England he lived in Bishopsgate. The work of poor William was criticised by other writers. He become a part of a theatre company called Lord

Chamberlain's Men, who regularly perfomed at „The Theatre".

Shakespeare's body of work could be lost over the years, but is confirmed that during his lifetime he wrote around 37 plays, 154 sonnets and a number of poems! That's a lot, isn’t it? :-)

He’s an author of tragedy, like „Hamlet", „Othello", „King Lear" and „Romeo and Juliet" – this is a beautiful story of two teenargers from Italy, which have fall in love with each

other. Have you read „Romeo and Juliet"? :-) What’s your favourite quote from it? Mine's „These violent delights have violent ends”. Shakespeare also wrote „Twelfth Night", „The Taming of the Shrew", „Henry IV”, „Henry V".

From his body of work William Shakespeare became very rich and famous. He was a brilliant businessman, he owned houses in London and Stratford-upon-Avon, too.

Shakespeare’s plays had the royal seat of approval. Queen Elizabeth I and James IV of Scotland have invited Shakespeare’s company

to perform at the royal court. Espacially King James I was enthusiastic patron of his work.

Very sadly, the author of „Hamlet" probably died on his own 52nd birthday, 23rd April 1616. Perhaps, poet's body was buried two days after his death. His burial at Holy Trinity Church is documented on 25th April 1616.

William Shakespeare penned a curse on his own grave, daring anyone to move his body from that final resting place.

The epitaph on his grave says:

Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare,

To dig the dust enclosed here.

Blessed be the man that spares these stones,

And cursed be the that moves my bones.

Shakespeare has no descendants. His daughter Susanna died childless in 1670.

That's all from me for now. I hope I brought you closer to Shakespeare. Did you find something interesting in his biography? Or maybe you want to know some more about him? :-)

Don't forget to subscribe to our blog, if you liked it. Also, you can share this post with your friends, maybe they will like Shakespeare too.

Till the next time :-)
